004 → Slicing Serenity

Haiku BookletDesign Aesthetics II
Spring 2023

Objective
"Slicing Serenity" is a conceptual design booklet that takes inspiration from the Japanese haiku "Cutting a Pear" by Masaoka Shiki.

This booklet serves as a visual typographic sequence, employing type, texture, shape, and color. The lay-out is based on a relationship between the individual pages and the whole spread.

Sketching

Form Language Direction

I decided to use harsh diagonals and repeating lines
to embody the “cutting” and represent the knife.
As contrast, round forms and smaller circles were
used to symbolize the pear and its juice.
